in 2021 Antonio celebrates his 25th Anniversary as a Mariachi Artist.. And what a Celebration it is. His soon to be released album, "Homenaje A Lola La Grande" pays tribute to Antonio's idol and La Grande de La Cancion Ranchera, Lola Beltran.
Hear about it in Antonio's own words......
There are certain milestones in the life of an individual that affect the directions our lives take. Celebrating 25 years as an entertainer is one of those milestones for me. My musical journey to this point has been awesome… It all started with the introduction of an Album of an incredibly, magical artist at the early age of 2 years old. Lola Beltrán. My Grandma Viola would play that album on a record player in her music room. My mom would lay me down in front of the album cover and I would listen to the beautiful music as I fell asleep. My Mom loves Mariachi music as well, so she made sure our home was always filled with the beautiful sounds of Mariachi. Mariachi, in particular Lola Beltrán, stayed with me through all of my school years, college and as I began finding my place in this crazy world. It remains my favorite to this day.
In 1995, I met Lola Beltrán for the first time in Albuquerque, NM thanks to my friend Noberta Fresquez. I met her again and spent more time with her at her home in Mexico City in 1996 again thanks to Noberta and our friend Nelson Martínez, who later became my musical Padrino as time went on. One of the most important lessons I learnt from that meeting was, there is nothing in the world I cannot do so long as I put my mind and heart to it. Something special clicked in my mind and in my heart at that moment. That meeting was symbolic and ultimately changed my life.
My career as a Mariachi singer began in 1996, the same year we lost, Lola La Grande. In many ways, I owe her a ton of gratitude for inspiring me to pursue this career, which has become my life. Therefore, as we honor the 25th Anniversary of Lola’s death, we celebrate her memory and my 25th anniversary as an artist with this very special collection of all of my favorite Lola Beltrán songs.
In this collection, you will hear some of her most immortal and beloved songs. In addition, you will hear others that you may not be as familiar with but are some of my personal favorites. I had the most wonderful time recording this album, in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico. Under the direction of German Gutierrez and the wonderful musicians of Mariachi Internacíonal Guadalajara, this became a true project of the heart and filled with tons of love. From our hearts to yours, we hope you enjoy Homenaje a Lola La Grande.
